Douglas Fir Historical Site
Recognizing the need to protect this unique forest of Douglas Fir, the Board of Directors of Wood's Homes asked the Province of Alberta to designate this portion of their lands as an historic site. The Province granted the designation of Provincial Historic Resource on November 30, 1990.
Located at the western end of our Bowness Campus, you are welcome to stroll amongst these magnificent trees, several of which are over 400 years old germinating in the late 1500's! This is one of the three Douglas Fir stands in Calgary, and is the eastern extreme of their habitat.
The renewal process is underway with many young Douglas Fir is this area. Please help us protect and preserve this site by staying on existing trails and leaving vegetation undisturbed by your passing.
