Youth and Family Counsellor
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Management of Wood's Homes as determined by each program, the Intermediate Youth/Family Counsellor provides front-line care for young people normally on rotating shifts providing coverage twenty four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements and maintains a structured setting that fosters the development of an appropriate level of personal and social functioning for each resident.
- Is an effective, mature and appropriate role model for each resident to utilize in his/her growth as well as for other staff.
- Works effectively with other members of the clinical staff in providing a therapeutic milieu.
- Participates actively in supervisory meetings, team meetings, retreats, planning sessions, and designated in-service training.
- Maintains appropriate records.
- Is responsible for a variety of therapeutic responsibilities for particular young people and their families including attendance and intervention at case conferences, consultations, school meetings, doctor's appointments, family meetings etc. and related documentation.
- Maintains the upkeep of the residential living space of the unit, and ensures the provision of a program that fits the requirements of the Licensing Department.
- Is responsible for a variety of tasks associated with program functioning including meal preparation, cleaning, and transportation of young people.
- Shows initiative, enthusiasm, and creativity in all aspects of day-to-day duties, administrative, clinical skill development and interactions with others.
- Seeks opportunities to take a leadership role.
- Executes other responsibilities as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Diploma/Undergraduate Degree in Social Sciences, Child Care, Nursing and minimum of two (2) year's of related experience in working with young people in a residential setting. Current CPR and First Aid Certification. Criminal Records Check and Clearance through the Children's Services Youth Modules. Personal suitability.
