How We Can Help

Opportunities: Wood's Homes Hiring Practices

The ABC's of Wood's Homes Hiring Practices

Procedures

A. Our Human Resources Department screens all resumes for suitability and fit with Wood's Homes requirements.

This is not an easy job. However, it can be rewarding, and in fact thrilling, for the right person.

B. Applicants deemed to have required criteria will be contacted for a screening interview. This is a short interview that encourages you to ask questions. It is also a time for Wood's Homes to gather more detailed information about your interest and qualifications.

C. As employment expectations are becoming an industry standard, we urge you to be prepared prior to any screening interview, so as not to impede your hiring process. This does not mean you should not apply if you do not have these requirements, but it does mean you will be required to provide documentation of completion. These requirements are the same throughout the human service field. This is why we urge you to update or complete these expectations as other positions in other organizations will expect the same.

The requirements are as follows:

  • Current Criminal Record Check (no older than six months)
  • Child Welfare Information Check (no older than six months)
  • Drivers Abstract - current
  • Standard First Aid - current certification
  • CPR - current certification
  • Two pieces of identification, one being picture identification
  • Blank voided cheque for automatic payroll deposit
  • Copies of educational diplomas/degrees
  • Copies of required registration with professional body (i.e. Chartered Psychologist, Registered Social Worker, Nursing)
  • Copy of all relevant training (Suicide Intervention, Non Violent Crisis Intervention, Aboriginal Awareness) If you do not hold this training, Wood's Homes will register you in their in-house program. There will be a charge.
  • Alberta Health Care card

D. After the screening interview, you may be called for a second interview. The second interview will be more specifically related to a position. It is at this time that the status of those requirements (above) will determine how quickly you could start work. Successful applicants will also need to furnish three references.
