Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Parent Mentorship Project
Empowering parents through validation and support
The FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) Parent Mentorship Project, launched in 2001 by the Calgary Fetal Alcohol Network, is a partnership of four organizations: Wood's Homes, Renfrew Educational Services, Hull Child and Family Services, and Community Inclusion Services.
The program operates through Wood's Homes to provide a continuum of community and residential services on a 24/7 basis and is available at no cost to clients. Elements of care are individualized to the client's needs and goals, and in-home support is offered through home and community visits and telephone calls.
Most importantly, parent mentors are parents or long-time caregivers of a child with FASD, who provide peer emotional support and validation to caregivers with respect to the experience of living with FASD children.
